U-18 v Lurgan BBOB Youth
16/08/2008
(Friendly)

Knocknamuckley's friendly with Lurgan BBOB Youth had to be switched to astroturf due to the recent heavy rainfall. The Muckley team contained 4 overage players due to boys being unavailable due to holidays, Ambassadors in Sport work in South Africa and other commitments. Alex Wright, a Lurgan BBOB coach, also volunteered to keep goals for Muckley.

The game was kept tight in the first half, as Knocknamuckley saw very little of the ball, and defended with everybody except the loan striker, between the ball and their own goal for most of the half. Andrew Gilpin and Mark Henderson were particularly impressive in the centre of defence.

The only chance of note fell to Matthew Lamont who latched on to a through ball, but was unable to beat the keeper who rushed out to smother the shot very effectively. Lurgan BBOB did manage to gain the lead before half time with their first shot on target of the game, which beat Alex Wright in nets, who was playing in goal for the first time in his career.

Half Time Lurgan BBOB 1 v 0 1st Knocknamuckley

The second half followed much the same pattern with Lurgan BBOB having the vast majority of posession, although Muckley were using the ball better when in possesion. Despite this, more Lurgan BBOB shots were finding the target this time, with most of those resulting in goals, as they stretched their lead.

Knocknamuckley did however get on the scoresheet with a fine finish from just inside the box from Andrew Gilpin.

The scoreline doesn't quite tell the full story of the match, as with a natural goalkeeper Muckley may have conceded fewer goals, then again on the balance of play 5-1 was probably a fair reflection of the match.
