U-14 v Magherlin A
(7-a-side, League Stage)
24/10/2006

Knocknamuckley began this game with high confidence after an excellent start to the season. Despite having most of the possession Muckley were reduced to having long shots at goal, which weren’t threatening the Magherlin keeper. This continued throughout the half with Muckley trying their luck when they had any sight of goal instead of building an opening. Magherlin continued to be difficult to break down, especially as Muckley were playing very narrow, rarely using either flank during the attack. When it looked as if the teams would get to half time level Muckley finally created a decent chance which Matthew Kimmins struck well into the bottom corner of the net to put his side one up.

Half time 1st Knocknamuckley 1 v 0 Magherlin A

In the second half Knocknamuckley seemed to have taken on board everything that was said at half time and started to use the width of the pitch more and to build the attack in order to work the opening. This began to work quite quickly, with Andy Poole providing the finish.

Within seconds of the restart Pooley managed to get to a long ball and knock it in for his second in under a minute.

Josh Black and Brooke Love continued to get down the flanks more, stretching the opposition defence. Muckley kept playing good football and got another when Brooke Love found himself in a bit of space down the left and fired in a good long range effort, which put Muckley 4-up.

For the second time in as many games Muckley got a fifth when Pooley struck a shot in off the keeper’s left hand post to complete a great second half hat-trick.

Thomas “The Engine” Chambers also nearly grabbed another near the end, after some hard work up front had left him with a chance a few yards out only for a great block by a Magherlin defender.

Chris Falloon, in nets, had had very little to do, but was called upon in the last few minutes when he made a great diving save down to his right from powerful shot. The follow up required him to spring to his feet quickly in order to make a strong block, before he dived at an attackers feet to smother the rebound. A great triple save to protect his clean sheet.
