U-14 v Annaghmore/Tartarahagn
(7-a-side, League Stage)
13/01/2009
Last years beaten finalists, Knocknamuckley, opened up the U14 Lurgan BBOB 7-a-side with a fixture against the combined team of Annaghmore and Tartarahagn. Muckley had lost four players from the team who finished as runners-up last year, due to the age restrictions. Andrew Connolly played his first 7-a-side game for Knocknamuckley, Jamie Davison made his début and Tomas Anderson took up the position of goalkeeper in the absence of Peter Stewart.
Knocknamuckley started well and took the initiative in the match when John Uprichard gave them the lead with a well struck half volley. This lead was short lived however, when Annaghmore/Tartarahagn forced an equaliser.
It was a bit of good fortune that regained Muckley the lead, when the ball bounced off an Annaghmore/Tartarahagn defenders leg and beat the keeper from 8 yards out. After getting the rub of the green, Knocknamuckley turned up the pressure with a goal from Josh Black. Andrew Connolly scored shortly after, when he got on the end of a corner which dropped at the back post, to give Muckley a comfortable half-time lead.
Half time 1st Knocknamuckley 4 v 1 Annaghmore/Tartarahagn
In the second half Annaghmore/Tartarahagn managed to claw an early goal back to bring themselves back within touching distance. However, this was soon cancelled out by a goal from Uprichard, who was left with a tap in following an Ian Irwin pass.
The impressive Uprichard rounded off a fine hat-trick moments later when he picked his spot from distance, and Ian Irwin also got his name on the score sheet when he tapped in following a rebound. Black doubled his tally with a long range effort, and Uprichard rounded off a fine individual and team performance with his fourth of the night.
This was an impressive opening win from the Knocknamuckley side, who, after laying down this marker, will hope to improve further when faced with tougher opposition, and attempt to go one step further than last season and lift the trophy for the first time.
