Volleyball v 1st Drumcrae
08/05/2009
(Northern Ireland Cup, Semi Final)
Knocknamuckley continued their defence of the Northern Ireland Cup after a long break following their Quarter Final win in January. They were drawn away from home against Drumcrae, and made the trip up to Ballymoney to play the game.
Knocknamuckley appeared to be the superior team early in the contest, but appeared rusty. Some poor serving led to a scrappy set, which Knocknamuckley managed to win.
First Set 1st Drumcrae 15 v 25 1st Knocknamuckley
The second set proved to be a tighter affair. A poor start to the set was remedied by some fine setting from matthew Kimmons, allowing Chris carville and Simon Grey to use their spiking ability. In the end Muckley managed to close out the set 25-21.
Second Set 1st Drumcrae 21 v 25 1st Knocknamuckley
The third proved to be the final set, as Knocknamuckley increase the level of their game, and won at a canter.
Third Set 1st Drumcrae 12 v 25 1st Knocknamuckley
Graham Cowan again had a good match, playing consistently well throughout. Chris Carville tortured the opposition with his serving, while Matthew Kimmons made some wonderful sets and Simon Grey spiked well.
This was a convincing win from the champions, and they can now look forward to a more challenging same in the final, when they will hope to continue the company’s fine tradition in the sport.
Result 1st Drumcrae 0 v 3 1st Knocknamuckley
