U-14 v Ahorey
(7-a-side, League Stage)
27/02/2007

Played in disastrous conditions at Dickson in Lurgan, this was never going to be an easy match, especially as this was the first match that Muckley had played since before Christmas.

This proved to be the case. In the first half, a talented Ahorey side dominated proceedings. The Ahorey team played a very attacking game and made good use of the ball causing the Muckley defence a lot of problems. Ahorey made their dominance count, grabbing two goals, which left them 2-0 up at half-time.

Knocknamuckley's chances weren't helped by the fact that a number of Muckley players were finding themselves out of position, and not making any attempt to track back, or regain their proper position, leading to a lack of shape and cohesion in the side, as well as the defence being exposed.

Muckley were lucky that they were only two nil down, as it could have been more only for some excellent saves from Peter Stewart. Stewart was making his first start for Muckley, and made two good saves diving to his left and managing to palm the ball to safety on two separate occasions from crisp Ahorey strikes.

Half time 1st Knocknamuckley 0 v 2 Ahorey

Muckley faced an uphill struggle to get back into the game in the second half. The performance did improve, but they still weren't able to play up to their normal standard. However, the contest was much more even in the second half, with neither team able to add to the score.

This was Knocknamuckley's first defeat in the competition, meaning that they finished the group stages with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat, giving 10 points. They will now have to wait on other results to see who they draw in the next round and whether they progress to the quarter-finals or have to contest a play off.
