U-14 v 7th Portadown
(7-a-side, League Stage)
07/02/2008

Knocknamuckley and 7th Portadown finally met each other in the final group game of this years competition, with both teams sitting proudly at the top of the table, having both won all five of their games to date, 8 points clear of third place, making this a much anticipated match. The teams were so close at the start of play that even their goal difference was identical, and in the event of a draw it would come down to goals scored in order to separate the two pace setters.

In a top of the table match a good start is always important, and it was Portadown who took the early lead with a good strike into the top left hand corner of the net.

Knocknamuckley despite their best efforts were unable to grab an equaliser as the Methodist side extended their lead to hold a two goal advantage at half time.

Muckley had it all to do in the second half, and were finding it very hard to break Portadown down at the back.

The match was as good as over, when Portadown again managed to extend their lead, and at 3-0 the match was beginning to look beyond Knocknamuckley's reach.

In the last few minutes of the match, Muckley did manage to pull one back, when Neill Adamson connected with a back post header from a corner, beating the keeper and nicking the post on the way in.

This was a great way to finish the group for both teams. Congratulations must go to 7th Portadown for coming through all six group games with six wins, and although it was Knocknamuckley who lost their 100 per cent record, they know that they have it in them to beat any team in the competition, including 7th Portadown, and should remember this as they enter the quarter finals as second seeds.
