U-14 v 2nd Broughshane
19/01/2008
(Northern Ireland Cup, 1st Round)
This is the first year that an U-14 Northern Ireland Cup has been competed for, and in the first round, Knocknamuckley were drawn away against 2nd Broughshane. The competition is played in the 7-a-side format, and this particular game took place on an astroturf pitch, suitable for this format of the game.
The game got of to a bad start for the Muckley side as Broughshane took the lead from the penalty spot. A cross was played into the box, and bounced off the hand of Christopher Falloon, which resulted in a penalty being awarded. The Broughshane penalty taker made no mistake to give his side an early lead.
The rest of the half was fairly even, with both sides creating chances, but being unable to convert them.
Half time 2nd Broughshane 1 v 0 1st Knocknamuckley
The second half carried on much the same as the first half, with neither side dominating, but both teams having their share of the opportunities. It was Broughshane though who extended their lead half way through the second half. Their second goal came from another cross into the box, on this occasion, the ball hit off Joshua Black's leg as he tried to intercept the ball before it reached the Broughshane striker, but unfortunately he saw the ball deflect off his leg and past the keeper for an own goal.
Needing to score two goals to stay in the competition, Knocknamuckley tried to pile on the pressure in the closing ten minutes, and did manage to pull a goal back with a few minutes left on the clock. A lovely passing move found Muckley with a three on one situation. Muckley made good use of the ball, putting Neill Adamson through on the goalie. As the goalkeeper advanced out of his net, Noker stopped the ball and calmly flicked it over the goalkeepers head. Unfortunately this only proved to be a consolation for the Knocknamuckley side as the whistle went a few minutes later. However, this was a very close game which either side could have came out on top, and the Knocknamuckley side can consider themselves unlucky.
