U-14 National 5-a-side
(Round 2)
02/02/2008

Knocknamuckley travelled up to Larne on Saturday for the second round of the National 5-a-side competition.

v 1st Ballyclare

Knocknamuckley started brightly, with a convincing win in their opening game of the group. The hosts, 1st Ballyclare were the opponents, but they were unable to deal with the Muckley side, who triumphed by a six goal margin. The goals came from Nathan McConnell and John Uprichard, who both got two, while Joshua Black and Ian Irwin also got one each.

Full Time: 1st Knocknamuckley 6 v 0 1st Ballyclare

v 1st Mountjoy

The second game was less successful for Knocknamuckley, as they were this time trying to contain Mountjoy. They weren't able to do so, and found themselves 3-0 down, before McConnell scored a consolation goal.

Full Time: 1st Knocknamuckley 1 v 3 1st Mountjoy

v 7th Portadown

The third match saw local rivals 7th Portadown take on Knocknamuckley. Matches between these two companies are always keenly contested, and usually tight affairs. It looked as if the Methodist side were going to win the game, as they led 1-0, a score which would have almost certainly signalled Muckley's exit, but Nathan McConnell popped up to equalise in the last 10 seconds of the match, to grab a draw, and keep Muckley in contention.

Full Time: 1st Knocknamuckley 1 v 1 7th Portadown

v 1st Cullybackey

The final match was against Cullybackey. Knocknamuckley were sitting on only four points from their three games, and required a win. This looked unlikely at half time, as Cullybackey were 1-0 up, but a good second half performance saw John Uprichard equalise, before Nathan McConnell scored his fifth goal of the round to give Knocknamuckley the win and secure their progression to the next round.

Full Time: 1st Knocknamuckley 2 v 1 1st Cullybackey

This performance means that the U-14 side will compete in the Irish Finals of the competition for a place in the UK Final, and also takes the company's total of Irish Finals this year to three.

Team- Falloon, Black, McConnell, I.Irwin, Uprichard, N.Adamson.
