BBC Sport understands that Ulsterman Keith"mad dog"Dawson has been approached by La Liga side Espanyol with regards to becoming their new manager. Confusion has surrounded the future of Dawson after well supported rumours circulated that he and manager Matthew Parks had been sacked from their positions as first team coach and team hydration manager.
Dawson appeared to confirm these rumours in a recent interview with the News of the world in which he slated Parks for what he saw as incompotent management. Sources close to Dawson now suggest that he is ready to step away from the water and into first team management. Indeed players who have worked under Dawson before are surprised it has taken him so long to make the step up. "He keeps things simple. He makes the lads beleive in themselves. With motivational skills like he has you could manage at any level" said Muckley pin up Stuart Campbell.
Since news broke in Spain that Dawson was flying in for talks Espanyol fans forums were bombarded with delirous fans busting with excitement over the potential appointment. One female fan reported that she had already had a Bull Dog tattooed upon her breast in anticipation of the anouncement whilst one die hard had just returned from sacraficing his dog, a poodle, in honour of their apparent new manager.
The Espanyol President, Pedro, refused to deny that Dawson was set to be handed the reigns of the Spanish club. "It would be unwise of me to name names before any contracts have been signed. What i will say, however, is that the man we hope to appoint will bring many qualities here to Espanyol. We are very open minded in the sense that big names dont necessarily mean big performances. We hope to appoint someone who will match both are ambition and commitment to the Espanyol cause."
A press conference has been called for 1pm tomorrow afternoon were it is believed Dawson will be revealed to the press.
